Each year RISD organizes an art sale open to the public as a means of showcasing alumni and student work, supporting entrepreneurial efforts and celebrating fine craftsmanship. Additional work is showcased on RISDmade, an online source for alumni-made goods sold through e-shops. By gathering this work together and making it accessible, those interested in the work created by RISD people are able to find out more about process, materials and the creative minds behind it.
RISD Craft
As the heart of RISD Weekend in October, this annual juried sale features handmade fine art and design work by approximately 120 alumni and students. The work on view speaks to the conceptual integrity, attention to detail and mastery of craftsmanship students learn at RISD and bring to their work throughout their lives. Participants are available throughout the one-day sales exhibition to answer questions and speak with members of the public about their process and practice.
RISDmade
Thousands of RISD alumni around the world find joy and personal satisfaction in designing and making original work. Since many also run online retail shops, RISDmade offers a convenient way to find quality alumni work produced well beyond our campus in Providence, RI. The work highlighted on the site is as diverse and eclectic as our community, yet it shares certain recognizable qualities reflective of the values RISD alumni bring to the objects they make: an understanding of materials, exquisite craftsmanship and a strong personal voice.
