Adam E. Anderson is a registered landscape architect and founder/director of Design Under Sky (D.U.S.). In addition to teaching at RISD, where he encourages students to experiment and challenge landscape convention, he runs the Landscape Architecture department at Payette Architects. His projects vary in scale and include hospital healing gardens, residential gardens, master planning, campus plazas, rooftop gardens and urban parks, as well as commissioned public art works. His work negotiates with the ever-changing landscape by understanding the unique phenomenological qualities and cultural influences inherent in a site and then deploying interventions to embrace, reveal and embellish these qualities.

Anderson recently completed 10,000 SUNS, a public park installation in downtown Providence that attracted hundreds of visitors last summer, and The Shack, a biergarten/seafood shack/performance space located adjacent to the new Wexford Innovation Center in the I-195 district land. He currently is working on projects at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania and the 43-acre site of 5th Xiangya Hospital in China. He recently received a Rhode Island Council of the Arts Project Grant and has been appointed to the Rhode Island Scenic Roadways Board by the governor of Rhode Island.

Anderson has taught at RISD since 2014 and has been a visiting critic at Harvard Graduate School of Design, The Ohio State University, Northeastern University and the Boston Architectural College. Prior to forming D.U.S. he worked for the award-winning offices of Landworks Studio and Ground, Inc. in Boston.
