Douglas Johnston

Doug Johnston moved to NYC after graduating from RISD to begin what has become a life in designing textiles. In 1974 he established the design studio Brainstorm, which designed original prints primarily for the fashion industry. In 1988 the business morphed to a consultancy providing original artwork, design direction and production oversight for several printed fabric establishments.

Johnston relocated to New England in 2000 and was art director for Quaker Fabrics in Fall River, MA. He now lives and maintains his professional practice in New Bedford, MA designing primarily for the home textiles market. His work is represented globally by the renowned design studio Colwill & Waud located in London. His designs have been purchased and manufactured by well-known firms such as Waverly, PKaufman, Caspari and many others.

Johnston has taught at RISD since 2008.
