Filipe De Sousa

Filipe de Sousa is an interdisciplinary artist, musician and filmmaker living and working in New York City. Originally from south Florida, he received his BFA from the University of West Florida and an MFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. His work is concerned with questions of history, politics and the pragmatics of social change within the neoliberal epoch.

De Sousa’s projects and collaborations have been exhibited at Artists Space in New York, the Kentucky Museum of Art in Louisville, the Woodmere Museum and Icebox Project Space in Philadelphia and the Pensacola Museum of Art in Florida, among others. He has been awarded the Coverley-Smith Prize by the Woodmere Museum as well as a Project Complete Grant from Tyler School of Art at Temple University. He is currently working on a film exploring the tourism industry in Alaska and the Yukon Territory, Canada, and was a 2017–18 participant in the Whitney Independent Study Program.
