Jamie Murphy Hlynsky

Jamie Murphy Hlynsky majored in painting at RISD before traveling extensively in Europe and Asia. She worked professionally as a freelance Illustrator and prop maker until 1980 when her son was born and she decided to stay at home with him while maintaining a small studio. The experience of motherhood and childrearing has had a profound influence on the content and nature of her recent work. Her paintings and collages, which sometimes take the form of paper quilts, explore themes of women in the world, beauty, body image and the phases of a woman’s life.
