Jerome Arul

In addition to teaching at RISD, Jerome Arul teaches at the MIT D-Lab, and he has manufacturing experience in China, Southeast Asia and East Africa. He once served as an operations officer in an armored engineer battalion in the Singapore Armed Forces. He also managed engineering and product design at EcoZoom and helped scale up production for Africa’s largest cook stove program (providing enough cook stoves and water filters for 30% of Rwandan households). The program was enabled by the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism. EcoZoom’s products have been deployed by the World Food Programme, the International Committee of the Red Cross and Relief International. When he isn’t teaching, Arul makes things at a small prototyping and fabrication shop in Providence.
