Joe Marianek

Joe Marianek is an Ohio-born, New York-based designer and educator. After earning a BFA in Graphic Design from RISD, he moved to New York and worked with mentors Paula Scher and Michael Bierut at Pentagram, where he was named an associate partner. He subsequently joined the Apple global design group in California and led interdisciplinary teams on projects ranging from print to product design. These experiences inspired him to return to New York City in 2014 to co-found Small Stuff, a design practice with his partner Dinah Fried.

Marianek’s work has been recognized by such organizations as the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Art Directors Club, the Type Directors Club, Design & Art Direction and 50 Books/50 Covers. In 2010 he was named a Young Gun by the Art Directors Club, and he was recently profiled on Design Matters with Debbie Millman.

In addition to teaching at RISD, Marianek has been an adjunct faculty member at the School of Visual Arts since 2007 and has lectured widely. He currently serves as education chair on the board of directors of the New York chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
