Lu Heintz is an artist, educator and feminist collaborator based in Providence. In addition to earning a BFA in sculpture from RISD and an MFA in visual art from Vermont College of Fine Arts, she has studied at Penland School of Crafts (NC), Haystack Mountain School (ME), Oxbow (MI), Instituto Allende (San Miguel, Mexico) and CE.CA.TI (Michoacán, Mexico). Through multiple points of entry—textiles, metalsmithing, video, sound, installation, performance, paper works and writing—her transdisciplinary practice examines personal experience on sociocultural scales. She has received awards from the National Endowment of the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, The International Sculpture Center and the Sustainable Arts Foundation, and she has been awarded residencies at MASS MoCA, Vermont Studio Center and Arts Letters & Numbers (NY). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in museums and galleries including: The Metal Museum, the RISD Museum, Sarah Doyle Gallery, R.K. Projects and Strano Film Fest. She is a member of the textiles-based studio collective WARP.
