Martie Holmer

Martie Holmer has been making art since she could hold a pencil. Her first bound books were made when she was four, and numerous early drawings of her family, friends and surroundings show her early interest in plants, animals and the natural world. She studied painting and graphic design at the University of Kansas and then moved to Boston, where she continued her studies at the Boston Museum School, Massachusetts College of Art and Haystack. She joined the RISD faculty in 1985 and continues to make art in various media in her studio in Queens, NY.

Holmer's work has been shown all over New England and in New York, earning many honors and awards including artist grants from the State of Massachusetts, RISD Faculty Grants, and residencies at the MacDowell Colony and the Millay Colony.
