Sakura Kelley is a photo-based artist who holds a Bachelor’s in Community Studies and Art from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a Master’s in Photography from RISD. Her work engages themes ranging from queer affective experiences to the tension between violence and beauty latent in everyday life. She explores these themes utilizing diverse media, such as prints on unconventional substrates, exaggerated large-scale prints, and artists’ books, all of which call attention to the materiality of the photographic images and amplify the viewer’s response to them.

Kelley has exhibited nationally and internationally at venues such as ClampArt Gallery (NYC), Blanc Gallery (Quezon City, Philippines), BankART 1929 (Yokohama, Japan) and 555 Gallery (Boston, MA). Through the completion of several residencies, she has created site-specific installations that furthered experiments with materiality and its impact on interpreting photographs.
