Students who live in RISD housing appreciate the comfort, convenience and camaraderie of living on campus. A range of residential options—from shared rooms to houses and lofts—reflect the individual needs of art and design students, offering larger-than-average rooms and dedicated workspaces that accommodate a variety of lifestyle preferences.

An emphasis on residential education

From the first-year Quad to the various apartments and houses available to upperclass students, Residence Life promotes an environment of learning and shared community that complements student growth over time.

RISD housing is gender inclusive—students can choose to live with one another, regardless of sex, gender identity or gender expression, in a shared room. Residence Advisors (RAs) and Advocates of Inclusion in Residence (AIRs) work with students to build a safe and inclusive community.

Connecting with RISD’s housing support systems

Staff members in Residence Life provide students with a dedicated resource for information on housing options—both on campus and off—and help with resolving any issues that may arise in residences.

For both first-year and returning students, housing and special request forms are available online.

Upperclass students are also encouraged to volunteer to assist first-year students on move-in day in September as a means of welcoming them to the RISD community.
