ELLE Presents Student Designs in NYC

David Yoo 10 AP, Jessica Castellano 10 AP and Caroline Hust 10 TX were excited to accept top prizes in the ELLE + RISD Fashion Next competition, which centered on an amazing runway show presented as part of New York’s Fashion Week. Their designs, along with work by 19 other recent grads and current students in Apparel Design, Textiles and Jewelry + Metalsmithing, wowed the crowd at Lincoln Center on September 9, 2010.

ELLE invited RISD help celebrate its 25th anniversary via the runway show and competition, along with coverage on its website and in the October issue of the magazine. The 22 students who took part in the adventure (and are profiled on the Elle.com website) were chosen by ELLE editors and a panel of judges that included Tommy Hilfiger, Derek Lam, Nicole Miller 73 AP, Marcia Patmos and a number of other professionals in the field.

ELLE also shot great video coverage of the runway show and everything that led up to it in a five-part RISD Fashion Next series. Together, the videos capture much of the behind-the-scenes process that goes into preparing for a show of this caliber.

Students were competing for awards with significant cash value; Yoo won the $25,000 ELLE|RISD Design Award, Castellano the $25,000 Maybelline New York Fashion Next Award and Hust the Kate Spade New York Award, which includes a $10,000 prize. The ELLE People’s Choice Award (another $10,000 prize) went toHeeYoen Uee 10 TX based on online voting in the weeks following the show.
