RISD Ranks #1 for Fine Arts Grad Programs

For the third year running, US News & World Report announced today that RISD tops its rankings of the best Fine Arts Schools, which looks at graduate programs in art and design throughout the country. In earning the top spot among peer graduate programs, RISD edged out both Yale and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

In terms of specialty categories at the grad level, RISD earned a #1 ranking in graphic design, glass and interior design; placed #2 in industrial design, metals/jewelry and printmaking; and #3 in ceramics, multimedia, painting, photography and sculpture.

The rankings are published on the US News Education website, and will appear in the 2012 edition of the bookBest Graduate Schools, which will be released on April 5 by US News Media Group.

According to US News & World Report, the rankings for the master of fine arts programs are determined solely based on results from peer assessment surveys. Sent to deans and other top academics at 220 master of fine arts programs across the country, the surveys ask respondents to rate the relative quality of academic programs based on a group of criteria established by this longtime leader in the business of rating colleges and universities.
