New swimwear and accessories from Jessica Schulz 08 AP's KORE SWIM line feature eye-catching designs by fellow RISD alum Joana Avillez 08 IL.

Now that summer is here in the northern hemisphere, eye-catching swimsuits designed by Jessica Schulz 08 AP and featuring whimsical prints by illustrator Joana Avillez 08 IL are hitting beaches across the US. The two met the summer after their first year at RISD during a study abroad program in Italy, where Schulz says she was impressed by Avillez’ sketchbook.

“She always had the coolest, most entertaining drawings of our Italian adventures,” the designer and cofounder of KORE SWIM told Women’s Wear Daily last winter. “I knew that Joana would come up with a unique and amusing print I would love.”

Avillez is best known for her work for The New Yorker and Vanity Fair and for illustrating Not That Kind of Girl, Girls creator Lena Dunham’s 2014 bestseller.

KORE SWIM’s new capsule collection includes one-piece and two-piece suits as well as a beach towel and tote bag. All of the pieces sport Avillez’ hand-drawn beach scenes and colorful florals and, according to The New York Times, the swimsuits “are flattering for real bodies.”
