Patrolling campus on foot, bicycle and in distinctively marked cruisers, the members of RISD’s Public Safety team work 24/7 to maintain a safe environment for RISD students. Officers are friendly and professional, often getting to know students and able to recognize members of the campus community. Public Safety also provides education and training that help students, faculty and staff to be stewards of a safe and informed community.

Crime prevention + safety resources

Public Safety encourages students, staff and faculty to take advantage of the crime prevention and safety resources it offers. Community members can register bicycles, scooters and personal electronics devices and pick up property and personal protection items or take part in National Crime Prevention Council programming and American Red Cross classes.

RISD complies with all state and federal statutes ensuring our commitment to a learning, living and working environment free from gender-based discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual assault. A dedicated team of RISD Title IX Coordinators is available for community members concerned about sexual discrimination or sexual misconduct.

Nighttime ride service

To ensure the safety of students working in their studios or attending openings and events, the college provides a free late-night shuttle service known as RISD Rides. Two fixed-route shuttles run daily between 7 pm and midnight, with to-your-door service per request (within designated boundaries) from midnight to 3:30 am.
